Books for Dummies

This cartoon got me to thinking about all of the "for Dummies" books that I have seen over the years,, This website lists a bunch of them covering subjects like computer software, Catholicism, Investing (who would trust that book), Real Estate, eBay, foreign languages, wine, photography, diabetes, golf, gardening and others. Ever read one of these "for Dummies" books?

  1. It's AMAZING the titles they have come out with!!! I saw one today "Landscaping For Dummies" and the "Idiots Guide To Weather".

  2. Believe it or not, Bob, some of these books are actually quite good. The idea is that the concepts are explained in a manner the average (uneducated in the particular topic) person can understand. The books are generally very approachable......and this is good in an age when many people no longer own a single book.

BTW, the Idiot's Guide To Understanding Depression was extremely helpful to me. ;)

  4. Hi Bob,

Wouldn't you know it, I got the entire book title wrong! LOL! The real title is:

"The Complete Idiot's Guide to Controling Anxiety" by Joni E. Johnston, Psy.D.

It's excellent reading. The author is extremely empathetic (She's been there herself.) and yet no nonsense. I highly recommend it.
