The "Gun show loophole" is a term coined to describe the legal sale of firearms between private individuals at gun shows in states where this is legal. When these sales take place at a gun show, some perceive a "loophole" in the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS), although these laws have never applied to individual-to-individual sales of personal firearms. Mayors in this video advocate legislation that will close this loophole. I believe that somehow these gun shows need to be able to use the NICS to insure that guns are not sold to criminals. What do you think?

I've been to many gunshows but and see guns for sale but assumed that the typical process would apply. I don't know about that here in CA, but I think ANY sale of ANY gun should be put through the "process". I have purchases several rifles and a handgun. For each I had to go through a background check and wait ten days from the date of purchase to pick up the gun. This is standard. In the case of the handgun I also had to go through a gun safety class and pass a written test and a hands-on test identifying all the parts of the gun and showing that i knew how to load, unload and secure the safety.
ReplyDeleteCalifornia has tough gun laws and I appreciate that. I just don't want my right to own a gun to be taken away. I enjoy the sport very much.
