To Forgive is Divine

I think that we sometime enter into the realm of the Divine when we forgive. When we relinquish our right to judge and embrace loving others through forgiveness we set ourselves free. Here are a few things that people have said about forgiveness:

He who is devoid of the power to forgive, is devoid of the power to love. -Martin Luther King, Jr.

The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the strong. -Mahatma Gandhi

There is no love without forgiveness, and there is no forgiveness without love. -Bryant H. McGill

To forgive is the highest, most beautiful form of love. In return, you will receive untold peace and happiness. -Robert Muller

Forgiveness is the oil of relationships. -Josh McDowell

To forgive is to set a prisoner free and discover that the prisoner was you. -Lewis B. Smedes

When a deep injury is done us, we never recover until we forgive. -Alan Paton

To err is human, to forgive divine. -Alexander Pope

  1. Awesome post! I love the picture, it goes so well with the title. I don't think that people realize how much easier it is to forgive than to hang on to old wounds.

I remember when a person had wronged me horribly. She was such a good friend of mine. I kept on praying about it, but had the hardest time with it. The Lord had shown me that I was just as wrong as she was for hanging on to the hurt. I went to her and asked for forgiveness for being angry and bitter toward her for what she had done. Not only was I freed at that moment, but so was she. She didn't know how to come to me and felt so guilty. God brought healing through that one act.

  3. I am learning how much forgiveness can be a continual thing. I never thought I would have to forgive someone a few times, or more. But when the hurt is deep, and you think of it from time to time, you need to forgive them again! Even if they havn't wronged you again!
