A Moving Caption is Needed
I am disconnecting my internet today and will not have it again for a few days.
So in the mean time feel free to leave a personalized caption for this photo - not that I am wearing that big of a grin these days.. moving is so much fun.

Caption This!
How did he reach the top of that board?
How would you caption it?
Superficiality
If I captioned this cartoon I would probably use the word "superficiality" somewhere in the caption. I think that few of us really "know" each other.. it took me the longest time to get to know my neighbor's names.. I still can't remember one of them - and I shared coffee with him last August.
People tell me that folks 'knew' each other back in the old days.. but I doubt that they really 'knew' each other. I think that our success oriented culture makes it hard for folks to drop their guard and let people in.. this is especially true for men. I think that women probably know each other better we guys do.. but I am not sure.
What do you think keeps us on superficial levels of relationship?

The Cereal Bar
Do you eat cereal for breakfast.. I don't.. but if you do you might be interested in the Java Break eatery in Lawrence, Kansas. Here is the caption on this photo:
Java Break owner Derek Hogan opened his Cereal Bar in August. The Lawrence eatery offers 32 kinds of cereal and a variety of toppings and milk choices.Would you frequent a place like this to eat cereal? If so what which cereal would you order?
Trash Heap Energy
An MSNBC article titled One man's garbage, another's power plant fascinated me. The caption for this picture says:
Apparently, methane from 455 landfills nationwide is being used to power thousands of homes. Why have we not heard of this before? Another example of "green" energy?
A methane gas collection pipe sticks out of the 1-E landfill in Kearny, N.J. The site is among 21 landfills in New Jersey that convert methane gas produced by decomposing trash into electricity, according to the state Board of Public Utilities.
Nike Hercules
This article brought back tons of memories because it showed the picture below with this caption:
A Nike Hercules surface-to-air missile at the only restored Nike missile site in the United States. The site is in the Marin Headlands, near Sausalito, Calif. The missile could carry a nuclear warhead of up to 40 kilotons. From 1968-1971 I trained to be a technician on these missiles and worked as launcher chief at a Nike firing site. Several times a month National Guard and Army squads would come out to the middle of the New Mexico desert and fire a few of these missiles down range - it was an awesome site to behold.. you get a small glimpse of it from the video. Often I would be in the control center about 15 feet below the launch.. even the sound was amazing. Maybe I'll make it out to this museum in San Francisco some time.

WWW: Airborne Couch
In this edition of Weird World Wednesday (WWW), I submit to you this picture and caption:
Balloons suspend Kent Couch in a lawn chair as he floats in the skies near Bend, Ore., Saturday. Couch, on his way to Idaho, carried a global positioning system device, a two-way radio, a digital camcorder and a cell phone.

This event is not to be confused with the 2003 movie titled Danny Deckchair ... which was a fictionalized version of an Australian flying man ... based on a true story but his balloons were yellow ... and the movie was pretty enjoyable ... from what I remember :)
