Some Things Happen for a Reason

Love this funny card. I do not know why anyone, regardless of their theology, would feel a need to regurgitate this cliche to a person who is suffering and in pain.

While I do not believe that everything happens for a reason, I do believe that some things happen for a reason. If life has taught me anything it is about how God often moves people to love when it doesn't make sense to love.

Yet I do understand that some, who hold a more mystical theology, see God as a divine puppet-master pulling life's strings. I would not be one of those people.

In essence, I think that some things happen for a reason because I believe that the 'normal' way that God intercedes in our lives is through other people.

  1. While I do not want to reopen this theological debate, I agree that people should not regurgitate cliches at hurting people. I think they generally do it as a excuse not to really care.

  2. I have a string of thoughts here, but were I to share them it would take more space than your succinct article. No fair. So suffice it to say, "Right on!"

  3. I too believe that some things happen for a reason but surely not all things.

  4. Haha. Absolutely love that card. But as much as I do think everything do happen for a reason, though I know it's debatable, I won't be saying it to everyone, or anyone for that matter.

  5. I saw that card, along with others, and had to laugh at my own meager attempts to comfort people in the past.
