Why he is a Christian

People often ask me why I'm a Christian. Here's what I tell them.
I’m a Christian because Jesus Christ found me and called me, around 40 years ago. I’m a Christian because it makes sense to me, because Jesus rose from the dead - he conquered death and sin and suffering.

I'm a Christian because in Jesus I see the God who didn’t say, "This is how you lot have got to behave, and I’m going to watch you and judge you." Instead he came alongside us and lived in the middle of the absolute foulest mess, and died unjustly young in great agony, and bore all that was wrong in this world on his shoulders.

I'm a Christian because in my own experience I’ve run away and God has met me and yet not been angry with me. When I’ve failed he’s picked me up and healed and strengthened me.
That’s why I’m a Christian. And that’s why, whatever happens, whatever stupid mistakes, I know that even at the end of it all, even if everything else fails, God doesn’t — and he will not fail even to the end of my life.

~Justin Welby, The Archbishop Of Canterbury

What would you do if you could not fail?

Saw this question of Facebook. Here are a few answers folks shared:
  • You only fail if you stop trying.
  • Become an artist.
  • Find a cure for cancer.
  • Dance on Broadway.
  • Run a horse farm and train horses.
  • Help others to succeed.
  • Move to Fiji and open up a bakery.
  • Shoot an 18 on 18 holes of golf
I love the diversity represented in these comments! I think that the answers reflect our dreams and wishes.
  • A golfer wants to golf better.
  • An artist and a dancer want to fulfill creative dreams.
  • Some want to fulfill entrepreneurial aspirations.
  • A few do not want to answer preferring to give advise instead.
  • And some want to help others realize their dreams.
These answers really make me think! Before reading them, I think that I would have said something about healing diseases. In truth I want that because my wife has a disabling neurological disease. Now I am wondering if my answer should be a bit less narcissistic. How would you answer the question? Please let me know.

Sometimes "like" does not always mean like..

Got these and a few other Facebook funnies from my nephew this morning..

For those of you FB people out there - ever notice how "like" does not always indicate agreement with what someone has posted? Although I imagine Booth liked knowing the whereabouts of President Lincoln. Sometimes I click "like" just to be a part of the comment thread without having to comment. Sometimes I wish Blogger had this feature - let me know if it does. I might "like" some of your posts if it does.. not that I don't already like them.

I wonder what a real life example of a FB "like" might be? You know.. a way to keep in the loop without really having to be a part of the conversation - the proverbial fly on the wall as the closed room debate is happening.. a kind of peeping (or listening) Tom.

I think that I can relate to this kind of voyeurism. Television and movies often gives us a way to passively observe the inner goings on of people and their issues.. reality shows especially feed this weird part us.. detective shows help us to vicariously solve crimes.. and sometimes soap opera-ish shows (in both TV and cinema genres) captivate our romantic (and sometimes erotic) fantasies allowing us to passively be involved.

I think that we sometimes "like" things that are not good for us. Can you relate?
