The Daily Show :: Satire not News

Anybody else find the message in this image to be closer to reality than any of us ever want to admit to? At one point I do not think that I would have ever thought that anyone would think this show to be news. Then a really intelligent person, who I respect, told me that they felt that "The Daily Show" was a pretty good news source. I had to remind that person that getting your news in 10 second sound bites may not be the best way to go. I watch it regularly and enjoy the political satire in it. But someone who does not understand satire, or the show's extreme left leaning bias, could really be misinformed. Guess that is it for my rant of the day. ツ

  1. The Daily Show is brilliant, and sometimes the interviews can be really valuable, but I don't consider it news. It's definitely based on current news events, but they are always going for the laugh.

    1. I really love the "news" titles Mike - they are so funny. And I think that Stewart is a good interviewer - that last segment is usually my favorite.

    2. My only complaint about his interviewing is that he seems tougher on some guests than others.

    3. I have noticed that too Mike. Of course, his "interviews" with Bill O'Reilly are classic.

  4. I agree, and so would Jon Stewart, that The Daily Show is not a news show. However, I don't think the show is far left and incapable of firing criticisms at both the Left and the Right when they have earned it. But, if you have some actual examples I would be happy to know them.

I credit the show with providing an honest and revealing view of issues that we rarely get from either side. I think of the Daily Show as a Whistlerblower.

    1. Thanks for the comment Joe. My thinking is that you did not regularly watch the show during the campaign last year.
