At least some folks are doing better these days ...

Guess how much money this Viacom CEO made in 2010? Guess it is not surprising since the median payout for top executives at 200 big companies last year was $10.8 million. Average American workers took home $752 a week in late 2010, up a mere 0.5 percent from 2009. After inflation, workers were actually making less.

  1. For that salary I expect him to have a full head of hair!

In 1960, the average CEO earned 42 times as much as his average employee. Today, the average CEO makes 100 times as much as his average employee. The average CEO of a Dow Jones company makes 500 times as much as his average employee.

The compensation for officers of public corporations should be recommended and approved by shareholders excluding board members and employees at or above the director level. The owners of private companies should continue to pay themselves whatever they want.

  2. Thanks for that comment about a full head of hair Joe! It got me smiling on a morning that I really needed to smile.

Agree with your take on compensation for officers of public corporations vs private ones.
