I've Gotta Find New Christmas Songs

After yesterday's downer of a post post I thought I might start the week off with a bit of a Christmassy one by listing my top five favorite renditions of my favorite Christmas songs:
O Holy Night - Sandler and Young
Angels We Have Heard on High - Vineyard Cafe
Adeste Fideles - Bing Crosby
The Christmas Song - Nat King Cole
O Come All Ye Faithful - Johnny Mathis
Wow.. looking at that list makes me feel old.. those singers are older than I am.. and some are no longer living! Feel like I should be playing these songs on one of those old 45 record players.. anyone remember those?

I gotta find some new Christmas songs and singers. Maybe you can help me out. What are your top five Christmas songs and singers of those songs?  Feel free to post them here in the comments or at your place.

  1. Top Five...
Come and Worship: Bebo Norman (Could listen to this year round)
Linus and Lucy: (from the album "A Charlie Brown Christmas)
O Holy Night: by almost anyone, but Mac Powell from Third Day is near the top of the list
It Wasn't His Child: Trisha Yearwood

    Honorable Mention:
Jesus, Oh What a Wonderful Child: Mariah Carey

  2. Loved the way Sandler and Young used to sing.
Love most Christmas songs but I especially like:
Mary Did You Know? by Mark Lawry and the Gaither Vocal Band
Also Mary Was The First One To Carry The Gospel by the Gaither Vocal Band.
Little Drummer Boy by Jeffry B. and Shannon Scott.

  3. Top five recent Christmas albums:
Rosie Thomas - A Very Rose Christmas
Sufjans Stevens - Songs for Christmas (words cannot say how awesome this 2-disc set is. Some great classics hymns, too, like Amazing Grace and Holy, Holy, Holy are on it)
Steven Curtis Chapman - Al I Really Want for Christmas
Jars of Clay - Christmas Songs
Sixpence None the Richer - The Dawn of Grace
    Top 5 Christmas Songs:
I Celebrate the Day - Reliant K. Brings me to tears every time
Evergreen - Switchfoot. LOVE that song.
Peace Child - The Normals. (A take on O Come Emmanuel)
This Is The Christ - Sandra McCracken
Wishing for This - Leigh Nash

  4. Hi Bob,

I would like to recommend the Cherish The Ladies CD "On Christmas Night". It's Celtic Christmas and everything they record is exquisite. And Hubby approved! :)

  5. Well, other than John Lennon, U2 and Bruce Springsteen's Christmas songs, I still prefer the ones you mentioned. Nat King Cole, Bing Crosby, Johnny Mathis! Plus The Carpenters and Andy Williams :)

  6. I've always been partial to Porky Pig's rendition of "Blue Christmas" :)

  7. Bocellis My Christmas was a thrill this year, especially God Bless Us Everyone.
    Manheim Steamroller
    Enya And Winter Came
    John Groban Noel

  8. Thanks all for the suggestions.. suspect I'll be checking some of them out on YouTube in the coming days :)

  9. I'm late to the party here, but my favs these days are Trans Siberian Orchestra and the new Christmas CD by Barlow Girl.
