  3. Wait a minute ...

    You've never hitch-hiked!?!
    You've got to be close to my age. Before I got my license in the mid-60s, hitch-hiking was the most common way for an adolescent to get around here in West Michigan. It was considered verysafe, and I don't remember ever walking more than a couple of hundred yards at the most before someone would stop and pick me up. I often thumbed a 2 1/2 mile ride to school to save time. The bus took us in a big 10-15 mile circle and we were one of the first stops. I could get up a half hour late and still beat the bus.

    Oh, yeah ... nice list :)

  4. I grew up in the civilized part of the country Ken :)

    Seriously, in NYC everyone took a bus, subway or ferry to get anywhere you wanted to.. and thumbing a ride in New York.. maybe not as safe as in West Michigan.. maybe not that civilized after all :)
