Politics of Ignorance

According to this Christianity Today article vendors selling Obama Waffles were asked to leave last week's Values Voter Summit after people complained about the product.

This waffle mix is yet another example of how unscrupulous folks are playing on people's ignorance. I still get emails from Evangelicals with all sorts of lies about Barack Obama. Here is an excerpt from one that I received yesterday:

"Therefore, there is, indeed, another spirit involved. And this spirit has come into our national life like a flood. Last week at Obama’s acceptance speech, that spirit exalted itself in front of a Greek temple-like stage, and to a huge audience like in a Roman arena. Obama was portrayed as god-like. His voice thundered as a god's voice."
Sincere Christians are listening to people who are still calling Obama a Muslim. These sincere people are keeping themsleves ignorant of the facts and letting Obama be smeared with talks of demonic involvement.

It all just makes me sad.. ignorance should not rule the day.. especially amongst people who claim to have the Spirit of God in their heart.

  1. Just one of the reasons for the funk I've been in lately. How to educate so many people. It's a Herculean task.

  2. I know what you mean. Someone brought another e-mail to me at church this past Sunday with a bunch of misinformation on Obama.

I don't support him, but if we are going to talk about him, let's at least debate his politics, not the Obamanster under the bed.

  3. It (ignorance) should be...but it is. I think that's why I was "sick" today and couldn't go to work...I just couldn't face it today.

  4. Yes, I've heard it too. People just show their lack of knowledge when they say half truth, or outright lies.

Oh I wish we could just get pass this on both sides.

  5. I agree. I expect some people to reject Obama for being black or for being a Muslim because of his name. I expect hate mongers to take advantage of this ignorance and racism. I cannot forgive the GOP for not denouncing it all. The racist that wrote "Obama Nation", which was published by Mary Matalin, co-authored "Unfit for Command", which corrupted the 2004 presidential election. The GOP did not denounce Corsi's book in 2004 and they are not denouncing Corsi's book of lies about Obama.

Likewise, I think it is irresponsible for a voter to vote for Obama simply because he is black or for Hillary only because she is a woman. But, neither decision effects more than one vote.
