Pope Benedict XVI reasserted the primacy of the Roman Catholic Church, approving a document released Tuesday that says other Christian communities are either defective or not true churches and Catholicism provides the only true path to salvation.Sad news like this causes me to lose hope that ecumenical unity can be achieved at a mass level in my lifetime. Guess I'll have to just be happy with the unity I experience with Roman Catholics on an indivivual level.

I’ve felt for a long time that the grand unity is going to be one on one. We have too many ideas of what church is to be. It’s only when we talk face to face that those robes of tradition are gone. When we take a look at our little blogging family we see so many different thoughts on what God means but we somehow come together as on voice for God. That’s His plan for us in unity.
ReplyDeleteI read this yesterday and found it pretty interesting, but mostly because of a church history class I took last year. It seems that Ol' Bennie wants to restore what once was.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe it will work, though. Not only are the laypeople of the catholic church not fired up about his comments, but from news bites I've seen there are some members of the clergy who aren't too fired up about it either.
I'm with you, KB. I'll enjoy talking to the members who love God. That's usually enlightening and encouraging.
